WHY AN OLYMPIC BOYCOTT

18. May 2008, 17:06 | by WD Milner | Full Article |

Someone asked me why I would put an Olympic boycott link on my site, “don’t I support my country’s athletes”? The answer is quite simple - I do support my country’s athletes. But . . .

I think the Olympic committee made a huge error in not considering the state of human rights and censorship blatantly rampant in communist China before granting the venue to that nation. Therefore, while I support the athletes, and their competition, I see a boycott of the commercial side of the Olympics that would benefit the Chinese government as a valid form of protest.

Tourism, knick-knacks, Olympic branded trade goods made in China all go to support a regime that has consistently and repeatedly abused the basic human rights of their own citizens and frequently visitors and journalists to their country, to make no mention of the annexation of neighbouring states. There is no real need to enumerate the list here; it can be found in a few seconds by doing an online search. And so, now you know why the Olympic boycott link is on this site.

I seldom explain myself to others but just to set the record straight - Go For Gold Canada!
