NOT WELCOME TO FLY BRITISH

10. August 2006, 14:11 | by WD Milner | Full Article |

Just a brief followup to my previous article The Old is New Again - and Hot ! in light of the new security measures in place on British airlines following the uncovering o an alleged terrorist plot.

It seems that there will be no more working on that presentation, spreadsheet, trade negotiation or playing your favorite game or watching your favorite DVD using your laptop/notebook on British airlines.

All electronic devices such as notebook computers, PDA’s and cellular telephones have been banished to checked luggage and cannot be used in flight. The fear is that they might be somehow used as a detonator fpr a bomb. All I can say is if they are clever enough to work out using a laptop for a detonator, they are also clever enough for it not to matter if it is in carry on or checked luggage. Can you imagine one of those magnesium cased laptops bursting into flames in the baggage compartment?

I daresay there are going to be a large number of business people, civil servants, gamers and even just movie buff travellers who are not going to be very happy campers.

I predict a rise in the use of corporate aircraft and a corresponding rise in revenues and stock price of companies such as Learjet, Cessna, Gulfstream and Bombardier.
