A PRAYER OF REMEMBRANCE

11. November 2012, 10:29 | by WD Milner | Full Article |

Gracious God, our help in ages past, our support in present times and our hope in years to come; in memory and in hope we come before you. We thank you for love and life, for family and friends.

On this day in which we remember, we offer prayers of thanksgiving and care for those who have gone before us, those who have died that we might live, and those who suffered and are suffering in the defence of the freedom and dignity of all people.

In the great wars that have spanned our world; in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America and even North America; wherever human struggle has been fought with pain and sacrifice against injustice and evil, we remember those who have given of their blood and bodies, minds and spirits, futures and very lives.

We ask your presence with them, in memory of those who have died in war, and with those whose eyes have seen its darkness. In the firm and fervent hope of a just and lasting peace for all people we ask you to pour your healing grace upon us. Keep us ever mindful of the peace that is more than an absence of war but the presence of compassion, understanding, hope, love and justice throughout thy creation.

Hold those who have gone before in thy Holy presence, O God, and watch over us and help us to be worthy of their noble sacrifice.

Amen
